Our Process

We would like to introduce you to the Slugger, the most economical Bricketting system available to produce high efficiency Brickettes™ for heat, for fuel and for electricity generation.

The Slugger is the only truly mobile bricketting system on the market – AND, it can be pulled behind a pick-up truck.

Simplistically designed and easy to operate, the Slugger is rugged, requires minimal maintenance, is dependable and offers the lowest cost per pound of throughput from a variety of feedstock.

With a Slugger Bricketter you too can make a difference to our environment and the future.

The Slugger is available with 3 optional Power Drives: PTO (tractor driven); Diesel drive; and Electric motor (for stationary requirements).

  • PTO (Power Take Off) drive: from a tractor rated as a minimum 52 HP, which typically results in 46 HP coming from the PTO at 500 rpm to drive the Slugger.
  • Diesel Engine drive: 60HP diesel engine water cooled, enclosed in an expanded metal cage to prvent human contact without impeding airflow, control panel, battery, battery box, 15-20 gallon diesel fuel tank.
  • Electric Motor drive: 60HP, 460 or 575 volt, 3Φ with electronic soft start and start / stop push button control that includes overload protection, for hammer mill systems.

Standard Equipment:

Includes a hopper bin, cyclone blower, 10 feet of cooling rail for each die, and a pair of plungers and dies with heater bands. The dies required are specified at time of order depending on the material you are processing. I.e. wood dies are different from grass dies.

Throughput:

Minimum of 400 lbs. per hour depending on the grind consistency, moisture content and feedstock material and the brickette size (1.5 in. or 2 in.),

Brickette™ Sizes:

1.5 inch (38mm) diameter, nominally 0.5 in. to 1.5 in. long with breaker or 2 inch (50mm) diameter, nominally 1 in. to 2 in. long with breaker

Feed System:

Bulk feed bin may be filled with air conveyance or through a user-supplied auger, feed silo, conveyor or bin. This can be specified upon order and we can work with you to accommodate your existing or planned method of feeding.

Feedstock Grind:

A Hammer mill is recommended to prepare grass or wood to the correct size before Bricketting. We offer 2 sizes of integrated Hammer Mills with either a 3/4" or 1" screen, depending upon your feedstock requirements.

Usable Feedstock:

Woodchips, woodmulch, switchgrass, miscanthus and other native grasses, paper, cardboard, books, corn stover, leaves, coffee grounds and many other unique blends.

Feedstock Moisture Requirement:

8-15% moisture content is required for most biomass feedstock. Typically 20-30% moisture for cardboard and paper.

Binder Requirement:

To date, no binders are required. Our Brickettes™ are 100% natural, with no additives, adhesives or chemicals.

Unit Weight:

A standard Slugger weighs approximately 5000 lbs / 2.267 kgs

The Slugger is the perfect stand alone answer for the small energy producer whose goal is to generate Brickettes™ for personal use or for profit. And, the versatile Slugger is modular in design where multiple machines operating side by side would meet the larger volume production for industrial furnace requirements – all for less than the cost of one of other Bricketting or Pelleting systems on the market.

With a Slugger, you too can start profiting by converting a variety of biomass feedstock into a valuable, marketable product.
